Dr Elliott has 20 years of experience exclusively caring for children and their orthopedic problems.Board certified in Orthopedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, Dr. Michael Elliott is the Director of Pediatric Orthopedics and Scoliosis at Renown Children’s Hospital. His prior experience has been as the Director of Scoliosis and Spinal Deformity at Valley Children’s Hospital in Fresno California. He was also Director of Pediatric Orthopedics at the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth in Virginia.

Dr. Elliott’s special interests include scoliosis and spinal deformity, neuromuscular diseases, sports medicine and pediatric orthopedics. He is a member of the Scoliosis Research Society and also treats kyphosis, congenital scoliosis and spondylolysis. He has experience treating young athletes and trained in arthroscopic surgery for the knee, shoulder, ankle and elbow. Dr. Elliott has expertise in the growing spine and early onset scoliosis. While at Valley Children’s hospital he introduced the VEPTR (Vertical Expandable Prosthetic Titanium Rib) , Casting program for early onset scoliosis, And an extensive surgical program for early onset scoliosis including magnetic controlled growing rods. 

Dr. Elliott is an active member multiple professional societies including the Pediatric Orthopedic Society of North America, the Scoiiosis Research Society, the American academy Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine, and the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. He has presented his research at both national and international meetings. He has published in medical journals including the “Journal of Pediatric Orthopaedics,” “Clinics in Sports Medicine,” “American Journal of Orthopedics” and “Military Medicine.” 

Dr. Elliott attended medical school at the F. Edward Hebert School of Medicine, Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Md. He completed an internship in general surgery and his residency in orthopedic surgery at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda. Dr. Elliott did a fellowship in pediatric orthopedics/spinal deformity at the World Renowned Rady’s Children’s Hospital  in San Diego, California.

His military experience includes serving as both a battalion and regimental surgeon for the 2nd Marine Division at Camp Lejeune, N.C., completing tours in support of the Bosnia /Serbian conflict. He is currently serving as a Captain in the United States Naval Reserves.

Dr. Elliott and his wife of 30 years have raised three children, and enjoy outdoor activities including hiking, kayaking and skiing. They are excited to call Reno their home.
